Radio Nova Postpones Charity Radiothon as Red Weather Warning issued by Met Eireann

Radio Nova Help Our Homeless Radiothon

Radio Nova has postponed it’s annual charity radiothon as Dublin and surrounding counties suffered significant snowfalls overnight. The station intend to run its ‘Help Our Homeless’ Radiotion, in association with charity Focus Ireland, today and tomorrow.

The station made the decision to postpone the Radiothon early this morning as a ‘Status Red’ national weather warning was issued by Met Eireann at 5am for Dublin, Kildare, Louth, Wicklow and Meath. The status red condition will remain in place until midday tomorrow, Thursday.

Programme Director, Colm Hayes, said, “Given the status red warning, we have a duty of care to our staff and the staff of Focus Ireland and their volunteers. Their safety is paramount and, with that in mind, we have made the decision to postpone. We would urge people to consider the plight of homeless people and those forced to sleep on our streets during this cold snap. The Radiothon is for their benefit and they should be top of our minds during this severe weather. We would like to thank our listeners for their patience and understanding”.

The Help Our Homeless Radiothon is in its 4th year and has raised over €130K to date for homeless charities in the Dublin area. It takes the form of a two-day pledge drive, during which listeners are asked to make donations to Focus Ireland to help them with the work in fighting homelessness.

Radio Nova is expected to reschedule the Radiothon over the coming days.
