The shortlist for this year’s PPI Radio Awards has been released and we’re all a flutter here at NOVA Towers as our new breakfast show, Morning Glory, has received two nominations, after less than 9 months on air!
NOVA’s Morning Glory has been short-listed in Category A3, ‘Breakfast Programme’, alongside FM104’s ‘Strawberry Alarm Clock’, Spin FM’s ‘Fully Charged’, ‘The Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show’ on Today FM and ‘The KC Show’ on Cork’s Red FM.
In addition, one of Morning Glory’s breakfast promotions has been short-listed for best ‘On Air Competition’. ‘Date My Dad’, run on Morning Glory during April was a hilarious yet compelling on-air dating challenge, aimed at matching up father-of-one and NOVA listener Tom Hendley, (51) with a new beau. Tom was sent by NOVA for an amazing transformation, including a full makeover, new wordrobe and even some Tango lessons to get ready for the dating game – and went on three dates with other NOVA listeners. He ultimately ended up choosing Catriona Tobin from Swords live on air, with the other two present (!). The couple are still an item to this day. Date My Dad was short-listed in this category along with promotions on 98FM, Spin 1038 and Live 95.
NOVA’s Deputy Programme Director, Dave Alsybury says, “We’re absolutely thrilled to be nominated in two PPI categories at such an early stage in the life of our new breakfast show. Our aim from the outset was to do things differently, creating an interactive and fun breakfast show for everyone. Coming after the recent JNLR, which saw substantial increases for us in quarter hour listenership during breakfast, this is great news”.
CEO Kevin Branigan said, “Obviously we’re chuffed to be short-listed and we’re particularly pleased that we’re in these categories with such prestigious other stations. NOVA’s on the air just four years, with our new breakfast show on only 9 months, and to be short-listed in such competitive categories with major players like FM104, Today FM, 98FM, Spin and Red FM is a great achievement in itself.
Morning Glory launched in October 2013 and is aired daily from 6-10am, with ‘Morning Glory Reheated’ between 8am and 10am on Saturday morning. Recent JNLR figures show that the show had doubled its quarter hour listenership in key segments over the past 12 months throughout Dublin city, county and commuter belt. *
