Radio Nova & Ireland’s Classic Hits Radio are two of the leading commercial broadcasters in Ireland. Radio Nova is the #1 music radio service across the extensive Dublin Commuter Belt are, taking in Dublin, Kildare, Meath & Wicklow, while Classic Hits Radio is Ireland’s only multicity radio service, broadcasting to 2.5M people. Meanwhile, Sunshine 106.8 broadcasts to Dublin city and county and is the #1 music radio service in the city.
We employ a team of 50 at our headquarters at Castleforbes Road in Dublin 1.
We’re looking for a Head of News to join our group. Controlling all news and sports output of Radio Nova, Ireland’s Classic Hits Radio and Sunshine 106.8, you will have the role of crafting the news output for all three services and manage a team of newsreaders with world class hourly output across the broadcast day.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced journalist and broadcaster with a proven track record in a senior news and current affairs role. A great radio voice, sharp script-writing abilities and strong editorial skills are essential. Experience of using the Burli newsroom system and Adobe Audition are important.
The Role: Head of News is a key role in the operation of all three radio services, requiring a high level of attention-to-detail and the ability to tailor news output to the audience of each service. You will work closely with the Programme Director of each service to create engaging, unique, and entertaining broadcasting and digital news output covering local and national news, sport, entertainment news and music news.
You will be a news ‘hound’, with a genuine interest in news stories, breaking news and what is happening locally in Ireland and around the world. You will take pride in the broadcast output of our radio stations and understand the importance to our radio services creating a unique position in the market in our news and current affairs output.
- Minimum 3+ years’ experience of news reading in commercial radio in Ireland.
- Experience of managing people in a commercial radio environment
- Direct experience as a reporter in Dublin market.
- Detailed knowledge of Burli News software system.
- Good editorial judgement.
- Highly developed news and current affairs sense.
- Knowledge and understanding of major sports activity
- Excellent on air broadcasting ability.
- Excellent digital and social media skills.
- Excellent administration skills.
- Strong interpersonal and coaching skills for a modern news team.
- Good knowledge of broadcasting compliance issues.
